Vicky is #swimmingdowndementia She has done it!!!
Vicky pledged to swim the equivalent of the English Channel (22 miles, 34 kms) to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimers Research UK And with 32 days of the challenge remaining, she has done it!! The 34 miles took her 17 hours and 10 minutes to complete and 15 dips in the pool.
This #swimmingdowndementia challenge is in aid of Alzheimers Research UK and all funds raised go directly to them. At the time of finishing, Vicky had raised £473 of an original target of £200. The challenge is open until 31 October and who knows, she may swim even further in an attempt to raise more money…. After all, she has swum to France…. how is she going to get back?
On completing the 34 mile challenge, Vicky told us, ‘I am delighted! I had no idea how this was going to go. I knew I was not a strong, confident or particuarly compentent swimmer but I have done it and I am really pleased. The support for me and to Alzheimers Research UK through the donations has been brilliant. I encourage anyone who has every wondered if they could take on a personal challenge for whatever reason to do it! I have seen and felt lots of barriers doing this; being in my swimming costume, being judged or looked at or laughed at but actually 1. No one is really bothered and probably, just like you, is going about their business. 2. The motivation was mine, the goal was mine, the support was amazing and created a positive feeling about something I was doing and the contribution I was making. For that I am really grateful.‘
