Nuneaton Fire Station – Fire Fit
The Tackling Inequalities Fund has enabled Nuneaton Fire Station to bring their idea of an interactive 30-minute fitness session to life, and allow them to be the pilot scheme for all stations across Warwickshire in delivering a free online (and eventually face to face) workout.
Designed by 3 of the Fire Fighters at Nuneaton Station, Fire Fit involves a series of cardio and strength training exercises using your own body weight as resistance. They launched the videos at the start of September, promoting the sessions throughout Nuneaton & Bedworth and targeting anyone who wanted to build their fitness and confidence following the expertise of a qualified trainer. The videos are released every Friday for 6 weeks and can be adapted for all ages and abilities to meet different needs.
Rachel Barnes of Warwickshire County Council: “We are so proud of the work by our firefighters to create Fire Fit and be health ambassadors for exercise across our communities. We all know how good exercise is for us, more so now than ever – but it’s not always easy to do with our busy lives. That’s why Fire Fit is so good – it’s free, fun, can be done from the comfort of your own home & only takes 30 minutes! We’ve had some amazing feedback so far and hope more people will get involved to help us in our ambition to get Warwickshire communities moving.”
So far, the videos have had a reach on YouTube of 665 views of the intro, 391 views of session 1 & 153 for session 2.
What’s Next? The plan is for 2 of the instructors to deliver to members of the community in a face to face capacity in local parks and green spaces in Nuneaton & Bedworth. Details are waiting to be finalised for the best locations and dates of the sessions.
The programme is being rolled out across the county for all residents to take part in, enabling and empowering everyone to be Fire Fit!
